Stranger in your house

We agree to suffer many things while we are at work, at friends, on trips. We agree to put up with inconveniences and annoying people. Speaking about our home, we consider it a place where our soul takes a rest and here we seek full harmony both in interior and in relations with our family members; we take care of their peace of mind.

Due to this reason appearance of a stranger in our home is critical for us and we feel nervous about this fact. What can we do in order to make our mutual existence not only useful, but also favorable for both parties?

To start with, you should decide what person you would like to see in your house. Successful work of our psychologists depends on how full and precise you tell us about what kind of person you would like to have. So, besides general requirements (age, education, and work experience) it’s necessary to clarify what kind of communication you would prefer: is it going to be business communication or you would like to see the person as your family member. Please prepare a job description for the person you have hired, what are the most important things for your nanny (maid). Would you like this person to be initiative or you want her/him to follow your direct instructions? The most complete portrait of you future employee will make the candidates search faster and easier for you.

So, you have chosen the employee at the interview. What’s the next thing to do? What shall you do so that you choice will prove to be right, not wrong (by the way, you should not worry too much about the last option). If you dot all the “i”s, you will avoid many conflicts and issues. The first time the employee comes to your house, he/she feels not very confident and tries to demonstrate the best features of his/her personality. Tell him/her about your family traditions and way of living and also ask about the things which are important for the worker, and which are unacceptable. It is possible that you will not be happy with the worker or something will be inconvenient for him/her. Make a decision: either you compromise, or you need to find another candidate.

Try to give a full description of your family preferences, get the worker familiar with personal characteristics of each family member. For example, you baby does not like this cereal and can not sleep without a certain toy, or your husband gets nervous when family members hustle in the morning, etc.

Here are our tips:

1. Put all your telephone numbers on a visible place, so that your worker will be able to find you.
2. Make it clear if anybody is allergic.
3. If you hire a nanny: agree on the daily plan, playground, and meals.
4. If you hire a tutor, choose a teaching method (tutor suggests his/her own program. Follows you program or use a creative approach and combines your requirements with his/her methodic).
